What energy strategies hold the most promise in combating climate change?
How do agricultural practices affect the global water supply?
Can urban growth be good for public health?
As a research center, our mission at SAGE is to ask important questions, and to find answers through cutting-edge science and policy analysis. We are advancing knowledge on a range of issues, taking on research challenges that would be almost impossible in a traditional academic environment. Our principle investigators span agronomy, atmospheric science, engineering, forestry, geography, medicine & public health, public policy, with all actively involved as faculty and scientists in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.
To learn about our activities by topical theme, please see our pages on Agriculture, Air Quality, Climate, Energy, Public Health, Urban Environment, and Water. Each of these pages gives an overview of the research team leaders, post-docs, and students involved in these issues, and a summary of ongoing research projects. These discussions also link to major collaborators at UW-Madison and around the world, as well as educational and outreach activities central to our work on these issues. Complete studies are reported on our Publications page, often with links to public reporting on results.
To learn more about the work of individual researchers or research groups, please see the personal homepages of our principle investigators: Carol Barford, Jon Foley (now at the University of Minnesota), Tracey Holloway, Chris Kucharik, Greg Nemet, Mutlu Ozdogan, Jonathan Patz, and Annemarie Schneider, or those of our accomplished graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, listed on our People page.
